APPLAUDING DISTINGUISHED RHODE ISLAND AUTHOR JOY FELDMAN, THE | |
HONORABLE LINCOLN CHAFEE, AND THE RHODE ISLAND BOARD OF EDUCATION | |
CHAIRPERSON EVA-MARIE MANCUSO FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION AND SUPPORT | |
FOR RHODE ISLAND’S "ALL-STATE READ" | |

     WHEREAS, As part of the recognition of National Nutrition Month, more than 200 |
1-2 |
schools, libraries, and youth and health centers across Rhode Island will host the reading of |
1-3 |
distinguished Rhode Island author, Joy Feldman’s book, “Is Your Hair Made of Donuts?”; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, A varied assemblage of local dignitaries, parents, faculty, and dedicated |
1-5 |
volunteers, including Governor Lincoln Chafee and Rhode Island Board of Education |
1-6 |
Chairperson, Eva-Marie Mancuso, have committed to simultaneously reading aloud to more than |
1-7 |
75,000 Rhode Island youngsters across the state; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, The message to be conveyed to our children is that “they are what they eat.” |
1-9 |
The initiative targets children from preschool through grade 6, to encourage their interest in |
1-10 |
learning more about healthy eating; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Ms. Feldman, an East Greenwich resident, is not only an acclaimed author, |
1-12 |
but also a nutritional consultant. She has planned the event as “a holistic act of positive |
1-13 |
community energy, with the goal of having the smallest state in the union have the biggest heart |
1-14 |
in participation.” She is also the author of “Joyful Cooking in the Pursuit of Good Health”; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, The health, vitality, and strength of our state will one day rest in the hands |
1-16 |
of our children, and so it is vital and incumbent upon those persons in our state who have the |
1-17 |
ability and resources to advance good and just causes, to help shape a better future for our |
1-18 |
children and our nation; now, therefore be it |

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-2 |
hereby thanks and applauds Ms. Joy Feldman, The Honorable Lincoln Chafee, Ms. Eva-Marie |
2-3 |
Mancuso, and the myriad volunteers across the state for their efforts and participation in Rhode |
2-4 |
Island’s 2013 All-State Read; and be it further |
2-5 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-6 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Ms. Joy Feldman, Governor Lincoln Chafee, |
2-7 |
and Ms. Eva-Marie Mancuso. |
