CELEBRATING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE TOWN OF | |
WEST WARWICK | |

     WHEREAS, West Warwick was incorporated in 1913 and holds the distinction of being |

the youngest town in Rhode Island; and |
1-3 |
     WHEREAS, As with many of Rhode Island's towns, West Warwick began as the home |
1-4 |
of successful mills, mostly located on the Pawtuxet River, that produced textiles for clothing and |
1-5 |
good employment opportunities for the community that developed nearby; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, West Warwick's thriving local economy during the 19th and 20th centuries |
1-7 |
brought with it the influx of many diverse cultures and citizens of different nationalities, resulting |
1-8 |
in the formation of many villages which still exist today, including Arctic, Centerville, Crompton, |
1-9 |
Riverpoint, Natick, and Phenix; and |
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, While the town's mills slowly closed over the succeeding years, today, those |
1-11 |
beautiful castle-like structures are finding new uses and revitalized purposes, and families and |
1-12 |
neighbors from the multi-cultural villages of West Warwick are proud of their heritage and small |
1-13 |
town friendly atmosphere; and |
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, West Warwick is fortunate to have so many historical sites, as well as |
1-15 |
geographic and natural resources upon which to build. Today, the town is the 10th largest out of |
1-16 |
thirty-nine cities and towns in Rhode Island and with continued dedication, insight, and planning, |
1-17 |
the 21st century looks to be full of promise and prosperity; now, therefore be it |
1-18 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
1-19 |
hereby commemorates the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Town of West |
1-20 |
Warwick; and be it further |

     RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby extends our gratitude and best wishes to those who |
2-2 |
live in and serve the Town of West Warwick; and be it further |
2-3 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-4 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to David Gosselin, Jr., President of the West |
2-5 |
Warwick Town Council. |
