1-1 |
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of |
1-2 |
Raymond E. Mello, a man who was deeply devoted to his family. Born eighty-two years ago in |
1-3 |
Pawtucket to the late Joseph and Agnes (Tavares) Mello, Raymond was the husband of Marie |
1-4 |
(Campillo) Mello; and |
1-5 |
WHEREAS, Our thoughts and hearts hold great empathy and sorrow for his family. We |
1-6 |
grieve with his daughters, Helen DiBiase and Barbara Mello, two grandchildren, and three great- |
1-7 |
grandchildren; and |
1-8 |
WHEREAS, Over the years Mr. Mello worked deliberately to improve his community, |
1-9 |
his state, and his nation. Raymond served honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean |
1-10 |
War. His stint in the Navy changed his life, most notably because it was during his time with the |

Navy in Morocco that he met and fell in love with his wife, Marie, who also worked on the Naval |
1-12 |
base; and |
1-13 |
WHEREAS, Upon his return to the United States, Raymond worked for many years as |
1-14 |
the manager of the Pawtucket Ice Rink, before he retired. He devoted himself to his community |
1-15 |
through his efforts as a member of the Pawtucket Elks Lodge No. 920 and as a member of the |
1-16 |
Portuguese Social Club. Raymond supported the efforts of the General Assembly by serving as a |
1-17 |
doorman for the Rhode Island House of Representatives; and |
1-18 |
WHEREAS, Even though we are diminished by this loss and mourn the passing of |
1-19 |
Raymond, so must we celebrate the spirit, generosity, and courage with which he lived every day |
1-20 |
of his life; now, therefore be it |
2-21 |
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-22 |
hereby expresses our deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Raymond E. Mello. He |
2-23 |
will be truly missed; and be it further |
2-24 |
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-25 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Marie Mello. |
