CONGRATULATING SYDNEY CULBERTSON FOR BEING NAMED THE RICHMOND | |
GRANGE 2013 COMMUNITY SERVICE "TEACHER OF THE YEAR" | |

     WHEREAS, For her dedication to young people and education, Sydney Culbertson has |

been named the 2013 “Teacher of the Year” by the Richmond Grange. This recognition is a |
1-3 |
momentous tribute to an exceptional individual who has had a significant and profound impact on |
1-4 |
the lives of her students; and |
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, Combining a genuine love of teaching with boundless generosity, Sydney |
1-6 |
Culbertson has led young people through the intricacies and nuances of growing up. She guides |
1-7 |
her students to become effective and contributing members of the community, thereby facilitating |
1-8 |
their lifelong success; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, Sydney’s dream of becoming a teacher began at a very young age, when she |
1-10 |
was inspired by her elementary school teachers to help others. While in elementary school she |
1-11 |
volunteered as a unified partner at the Special Olympics and continued her support throughout her |
1-12 |
middle school, high school, and college years. She was named the 2003 Unified Partner of the |
1-13 |
Year, and has been a coach for all of the Special Olympics sports. Sydney is currently in charge |
1-14 |
of the young athletes program; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, These experiences encouraged Sydney to become a Special Education |
1-16 |
teacher. Sydney graduated from Rhode Island College and started working at the Wickford |
1-17 |
Middle School with the Special Education students. Originally working with an Enhanced Life |
1-18 |
Program, she is currently in charge of the Alternative Learning Program; and |
1-19 |
     WHEREAS, Through all her actions, Sydney demonstrates her great love, not only for |
1-20 |
the students that she teaches, but also for the young athletes that she coaches in the Special |
2-1 |
Olympics; and |
2-2 |
     WHEREAS, Sydney Culbertson’s positive impact on her students’ lives has certainly |
2-3 |
qualified her as one of the “best of the best” in the state, and she has wholly distinguished herself |
2-4 |
as a person worthy of our praise and admiration; now, therefore be it |
2-5 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-6 |
hereby congratulates and honors Sydney Culbertson on being named the 2013 Teacher of the |
2-7 |
Year by the Richmond Grange #6, and wish her continued success in all her future endeavors; |
2-8 |
and be it further |
2-9 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-10 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Sydney Culbertson. |
