HONORING BUDDY CIANCI ON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE RHODE ISLAND RADIO | |

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame was established in 2008 to celebrate |

the medium's history in the Ocean State. Being selected as an Inductee into the organization is a |
1-3 |
momentous tribute to those who have played a significant role in radio’s history and growth in |
1-4 |
our state; and |
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, Vincent Albert Cianci, Jr., better known as “Buddy Cianci” to his adoring |
1-6 |
fans and avid WADK-AM listeners, has been honored as one of the class of 2013’s inductees into |
1-7 |
the Radio Hall of Fame; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, As anyone who has ever heard Buddy speak at a function or talk on the |
1-9 |
radio knows, he can discuss just about any topic, but is particularly equipped to discuss Rhode |
1-10 |
Island politics with “in the know” insight and irreverent, tongue-in-cheek humor; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Born in Cranston, Buddy grew up in the Laurel Hill section of the city. His |
1-12 |
grandparents, who had emigrated from Italy, had 13 children. From these humble beginnings, |
1-13 |
Buddy Cianci built a life that soared to the highest pinnacles. With a determination and ability |
1-14 |
that few people possess, he became Mayor of Providence and then subsequently rebuilt his career |
1-15 |
in radio; and |
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, Buddy demonstrated an interest in radio from a young age. By the time he |
1-17 |
was seven or eight, he was part of WJAR’s “kiddie review.” During the 80’s, he started full-time |
1-18 |
for WHJJ-AM as an on-air personality, and most recently, he has been voted the state’s best radio |
1-19 |
host for four years running; and |
2-20 |
     WHEREAS, With a radio career that has spanned more than forty years, Buddy Cianci |
2-21 |
has had an enduring impact on the radio industry and his “on-air” accomplishments are worthy of |
2-22 |
our recognition and emulation; now, therefore be it |
2-23 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-24 |
hereby honors former Mayor Buddy Cianci on his induction into the Rhode Island Radio Hall of |
2-25 |
Fame; and be it further |
2-26 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-27 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Buddy Cianci. |
