EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF

HARRY W. ASQUITH, JR., ESQ.

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness and regret that this Senate has learned of the passing

1-2

of Harry Asquith, a highly respected attorney and a devoted family man.  He was the beloved

1-3

husband of Rhode Island Family Court Magistrate, Patricia K. Asquith, and the devoted father of

1-4

four beautiful daughters, Lilly Asquith, Michaela Shaw, Grace Asquith, and Kaycee Asquith; and

1-5

     WHEREAS, Born in Providence on the day before Christmas, 1952, Harry received his

1-6

Bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University, cum laude, and his Juris Doctor from Suffolk

1-7

University in 1978, and was admitted to the Rhode Island Bar Association in 1979; and

1-8

     WHEREAS, Harry grew to be a consummate and gifted litigator.  He served in myriad

1-9

roles, including Probate Judge for the Town of Lincoln, Assistant Disciplinary Counsel for the

1-10

Rhode Island Supreme Court, and a Superior Court Arbitrator.  He was admitted to the Rhode

1-11

Island and United States District Court, District of Rhode Island, and the United States Court of

1-12

Appeals, First District; and

1-13

     WHEREAS, In addition to his public service, Harry built and maintained a flourishing

1-14

private law practice, Asquith & Mahoney, LLP, located in Providence, where he dispensed his

1-15

wisdom, sagacious advice, and reasoned opinions with understanding, knowledge, and humor;

1-16

and

1-17

     WHEREAS, Harry possessed a brilliant mind, and a fair and magnanimous spirit. He had

1-18

the love of his family, the loyalty of his friends, and the admiration of his peers, and he will be

1-19

profoundly missed by those who had the good fortune to be a part of his vital and fulfilling life;

now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-3

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to his wife and the entire Asquith Family on the passing

2-4

of Harry W. Asquith, Jr.; and be it further    

2-5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-6

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to The Honorable Patricia K. Asquith and Family.
