CONGRATULATING MRS. HAZEL BRADLEY | |
ON THE MARVELOUS OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY | |

     WHEREAS, Hazel Bradley was born ten decades ago on July 2nd of 1913. In March of |

that year, Woodrow Wilson was inaugurated as the 28th President of the United States and you |
1-3 |
could purchase a loaf of bread, two dozen eggs, and a gallon of milk for less than a dollar; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Mrs. Bradley grew up in Apponaug, a neighborhood in central Warwick. |
1-5 |
She graduated from Lockwood High School in 1931. She played the violin in the school’s |
1-6 |
orchestra and was a member of the Warwick Central Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday |
1-7 |
school and was a member of the Missionary Circle, the Choir, and the Baptist Youth Prayer |
1-8 |
Union; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, A church picnic began a romance between Hazel and Jesse R. Bradley, Jr., |
1-10 |
that would lead to marriage and three beautiful children, Jesse Richard Bradley, III, Marie Estelle |
1-11 |
Bradley, and Cheryl Bradley; and |
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, After her marriage, Mrs. Bradley joined the Olney Street Baptist Church in |
1-13 |
Providence, where she again taught Sunday school and was a member of the Senior Choir, the |
1-14 |
Carrie Mabray Circle, the Usher Board, the Deaconess Board, and the Big Sisters; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, In addition to her family and church, Mrs. Bradley was a teacher’s aide with |
1-16 |
the Providence school system and was active with numerous organizations over the years, |
1-17 |
including the East Side Neighborhood Council, Progress for Providence, Committee Women |
1-18 |
Ward 3, the Apponaug Auxiliary Board, and the Board for the Redevelopment of the East Side |
1-19 |
for University Heights and Charlesgate; and |
2-20 |
     WHEREAS, Hazel Bradley has been blessed with a large and loving family. In addition |
2-21 |
to her children, she is the proud grandmother of seven grand children, twelve great grandchildren, |
2-22 |
and seventeen great-great grandchildren; and |
2-23 |
     WHEREAS, With a kind and gentle spirit, Hazel Bradley has enriched and inspired the |
2-24 |
lives of those around her and we are delighted to celebrate her birthday and applaud her myriad |
2-25 |
accomplishments; now, therefore be it |
2-26 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-27 |
hereby joins the family and many friends of Mrs. Hazel Bradley in wishing her a very happy 100th |
2-28 |
Birthday. We moreover wish her good health and much happiness for many years to come; and |
2-29 |
be it further |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-31 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Hazel Bradley. |
