CONGRATULATING THE CITY OF CENTRAL FALLS, THE BLACKSTONE VALLEY | |
TOURISM COUNCIL, AND TROOP 3 OF THE NARRAGANSETT COUNCIL OF THE BOY | |
SCOUTS OF AMERICA ON THE OPENING OF RIVER ISLAND CAMPGROUND | |

     WHEREAS, On a small island, nestled on the Blackstone River, in the tiny urban City of |

Central Falls, a unique concept, conceived in the spirited exchanges of Leadership Central Falls |

and nurtured by optimism and determination, came to fruition on June 14th of 2013, when the |
1-4 |
River Island Campground opened for its inaugural season of campfires and cookouts, sleeping |
1-5 |
under the stars, and communing with nature; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, River Island Campground is the very first urban campground in Rhode |
1-7 |
Island and only the 5th in the United States. Located adjacent to River Island Park, the 4.5 acres |
1-8 |
of sublimely serene wilderness were developed through a collaboration among the City of Central |
1-9 |
Falls, the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, and Troop 3 of the Narragansett Council of the |
1-10 |
Boy Scouts of America; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Usage of the facilities will be closely monitored, with camping open to |
1-12 |
organized groups such as the Boy and Girl Scouts, the YMCA and YWCA, the Boys & Girls |
1-13 |
Clubs, and local fish and rod clubs; and |
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, While lions and tigers and bears will most likely not be spotted at the River |
1-15 |
Island Campground, fun, fishing, and great times will be clearly visible and readily available; |
1-16 |
now, therefore be it |
1-17 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
1-18 |
hereby congratulates Mayor James Diossa and the City of Central Falls, James Toomey and the |
1-19 |
Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, and the Boy Scouts of Troop 3 on the opening of the first |
1-20 |
Rhode Island urban campground, River Island Campground; and be it further |
2-1 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-2 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to James Toomey, Coordinator, Sustainable |
2-3 |
Tourism Laboratory, Blackstone Valley Tourism Council. |
