RELATING TO HEALTH AND SAFETY -- CATASTROPHIC HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

     SECTION 1. Chapter 42-62 of the General Laws entitled "Catastrophic Health Insurance |

Plan Act" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |

     42-62-29. Alternative plans to be offered. -- For every qualified program and health |
1-4 |
insurance plan offered through the Rhode Island health benefits exchange that includes coverage |
1-5 |
for abortion services, the exchange shall also offer an alternative version of the program or plan |
1-6 |
which does not provide coverage for abortion services but is otherwise identical. The cost or rate |
1-7 |
of each such alternative program or plan shall be reduced so as to incorporate and reflect the |
1-8 |
elimination of such coverage, including, but not limited to, mandatory abortion fees for abortion |
1-9 |
services. For purposes of this section, the term "abortion" shall have the same meaning as set |
1-10 |
forth in chapter 23-4.7 ("Informed Consent for Abortion"). |

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

     This act would require that for every health insurance plan offered through the Rhode |

would also offer an alternative version of the program or plan which does not provide coverage |

for abortion services, the cost of which would reflect the elimination of such coverage. |

     This act would take effect upon passage. |
