|

Introduced By: Senators Sosnowski, Hodgson, and Algiere
     Date Introduced: July 01, 2013
Referred To: Placed on the Senate Consent Calendar
1-1 |
WHEREAS, It takes a special kind of person to handle the endless details associated with |
1-2 |
the sound financial management of a municipality. An ability to develop, monitor, and stick to |
1-3 |
short- and long-term fiscal plans, to scrutinize workloads and staff assignments, and to contribute |
1-4 |
to healthy dialogue during contract negotiations are just a subset of the skills and abilities that go |
1-5 |
into healthy municipal oversight. To the immense good fortune of the people of South |
1-6 |
Kingstown, Alan Lord has used his considerable financial acumen to support the town’s financial |
1-7 |
needs for more than three decades; and |
1-8 |
WHEREAS, Alan earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of |
1-9 |
Rhode Island in 1977. Within a handful of years, he found himself in exactly the place he wanted |
1-10 |
to be: working with the Town of South Kingstown, at first as the Town Accountant; and |
1-11 |
WHEREAS, Alan quickly earned the trust of South Kingstown, which appointed him as |
1-12 |
its Director of Finance in 1981. For the next 32 years, Alan’s natural talents and critical eye were |
1-13 |
directed at ensuring the town’s fiscal health and well-being. His leadership in the field garnered |
1-14 |
him the admiration of his peers, who awarded him the Government Finance Officers |
1-15 |
Association’s Finance Director of the Year Award in 1998. Alan’s accomplishments were also |
1-16 |
recognized by the Office of the Governor, which awarded him the Goodrich Award for |
1-17 |
distinguished service to Rhode Island taxpayers in 1994; and |
1-18 |
WHEREAS, Generations of residents in South Kingstown have Alan to thank for the |
1-19 |
town’s continued financial stability and growth. A long-time resident himself, Alan takes pride in |
1-20 |
the town’s reputation as an outstanding place to settle and raise a family, which is exactly what he |
1-21 |
did with his lovely wife, Cindy, as they brought up their four wonderful children, Julie, |
2-1 |
Stephanie, Jeff, and Alison; now, therefore be it |
2-2 |
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-3 |
hereby congratulates Alan Lord on the occasion of his retirement after more than three decades |
2-4 |
serving as South Kingstown’s Director of Finance. We join his family and many friends in |
2-5 |
wishing him the best of luck and happiness as he begins the next chapter of his life; and be it |
2-6 |
further |
2-7 |
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to send |
2-8 |
a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Alan Lord. |
