COMMEMORATING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF WRIGHT'S DAIRY FARM | |

1 | WHEREAS, Farming is not only a basic necessity for all human life, but it is also a proud |
2 | tradition and an essential component in our state’s economy; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson once said, "Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it |
4 | will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness." And while members |
5 | of the Wright family are perhaps not overburdened with copious amounts of money, they are rich |
6 | in family heritage and have achieved abundant success in the business of farming; and |
7 | WHEREAS, In 1914, George Wright moved his family to a 90-acre parcel of land in |
8 | North Smithfield that he had purchased in 1896. Over the course of the next century, four |
9 | generations of the Wright Family have been caring for the land and building a thriving business |
10 | known today as Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Adopting a business philosophy of sound decision making mixed with a |
12 | dollop of calculated risk taking and a large measure of customer input has produced a business |
13 | that has morphed, expanded, and ultimately grown more successful over the years; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Today, Wright's Farm employs 70 local bakers, dairy plant workers, and |
15 | grounds hands. The business produces several varieties of milk and ice cream, as well as a |
16 | cornucopia of delicious baked goods. The farm has become such a traditional stop for |
17 | generations of families that the history of the farm has now been documented in a book entitled, |
18 | "Wright's Dairy Farm: History in Four Voices"; and |
19 | WHEREAS, The economic vitality of our state depends and relies on the strength of |
20 | small businesses such as the Wright's Dairy Farm who sagaciously and fruitfully carry on the |

1 | noble tradition of farming in our state; now, therefore be it |
2 | RESOLVED That the House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
3 | Providence Plantations hereby honors and congratulates four generations of the Wright Family on |
4 | the 100th Anniversary of living and farming the land at Wright's Dairy Farm on Woonsocket Hill |
5 | Road in North Smithfield. We furthermore extend a hearty thank you to members of the Wright’s |
6 | Dairy Farm family for delighting the palates of generations of Rhode Islanders; and be it further |
7 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
8 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Eddie Wright, Head of Operations, |
9 | Wright's Dairy Farm. |
