EXPRESSING ITS DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF STEPHEN R.

FAMIGLETTI

     WHEREAS, Stephen R. Famigletti, Esq. of Lincoln, Rhode Island, passed away

2

peacefully at home on December 29, 2013. Stephen was the husband of Susan (Marcotte)

3

Famigletti, and the son of Angela (Nardolillo) and the late Vittorio (Rocco) Famigletti. He was

4

the brother of Marianne Ferraresi and the late Paul V. Famigletti. He was blessed with many

5

nieces and nephews, Kristine and John Toic, Paul Famigletti, Anthony, Stephen, and Nicholas

6

Ferraresi, Charles H. and Kerri Marcotte, Joseph H. Marcotte, Ashley Longtin and Dave

7

Delahunt, Shane McLoughlin, Robert Longtin, Matthew Costa, Anne McLoughlin and Gabrielle

8

Costa, as well as a grandniece, Vanessa Toic, and two grandnephews, Alexander Toic and

9

Zachary Marcotte. Additionally, Stephen leaves many cousins including his “brother” Guy

10

Lancelotti, MD, two aunts, Mary “Mimi” Nardolillo, and Jenny Nicastro, and an uncle, Guy

11

Lancelotti; and

12

     WHEREAS, Stephen was a graduate of St. Ann’s School, LaSalle Academy and

13

Providence College and Suffolk University Law School. He was admitted to the Rhode Island

14

Bar in 1972. He was also admitted to the Bar of the United States District Court for the district of

15

Rhode Island; and

16

     WHEREAS, Following law school, Stephen served as a law clerk for the Honorable

17

William E. Powers, Associate Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court. He also served with

18

distinction as a prosecutor in the Rhode Island Department of the Attorney General. He was also

19

a partner in the law firm of Famigletti & Carlin, where he engaged in civil litigation and criminal

defense. Stephen was an accomplished lawyer who tried many celebrated cases including State v.

2

Claus Von Bulow. He was also appointed to the Rhode Island Select Commission to Investigate

3

the Failure of RISDIC-insured institutions and served on the Rhode Island Ethics Commission;

4

and

5

     WHEREAS, Stephen was presented with the UNITAM award for "Outstanding

6

contributions to mankind and in honor of his Italian-American Heritage", and was recognized by

7

the Suffolk University Law School Alumni Association for his "dedicated public service and for

8

leadership in the pursuit of excellence in the legal community"; and

9

     WHEREAS, Stephen was a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, the Rhode

10

Island Trial Lawyers Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the

11

American Bar Association. Stephen was noted for his courtroom skills, his quick-witted humor,

12

and streetwise charm. He enjoyed reading, cooking, singing, New York City, the Yankees, and

13

celebrating with family and friends. He was a gregarious man with a big heart who will be sorely

14

missed by his family and friends; now, therefore be it

15

     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

16

Providence Plantations hereby expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Stephen R.

17

Famigletti; and be it further

18

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

19

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Susan Famigletti.
