A N   A C T

RELATING TO CRIMINAL LAW - PAROLE BOARD

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Johnston, O'Brien, Hull, Canario, and Carnevale

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 13-8-1 of the General Laws in Chapter 13-8 entitled "Parole" is

hereby amended to read as follows:

     13-8-1. Parole board -- Appointment and terms of members. -- Within the department

4

of corrections there shall be a parole board consisting of seven (7) qualified electors of the state

5

appointed by the governor. In the month of January in each year, the governor shall appoint one

6

or more members of the board to serve in place of members whose terms have expired, for a term

7

of three (3) years, and until his, her, or their successors have been appointed and qualified. No

8

appointee, including the chairperson, shall serve more than three (3) terms. This section may

9

apply prospectively to all new appointments and re-appointments.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
