1 | WHEREAS, There exists a continuing debate in this nation and state as to abortion and |
2 | ascertaining the moment that life begins; and |
3 | WHEREAS, There is sound scientific evidence that the heart of a fetus begins beating at |
4 | about the eighteenth day of fetal development; and |
5 | WHEREAS, The existence of a beating heart has been recognized as an indicator of the |
6 | existence of life; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
8 | Providence Plantations hereby recognizes that the existence of a fetal heartbeat is evidence of the |
9 | existence of human life. |
