TO APPROVE AND PUBLISH AND SUBMIT TO THE ELECTORS A PROPOSITION OF | |
AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE HOUSE OF | |
REPRESENTATIVES | |

1 | RESOLVED, That a majority of all members elected to each house of the general |
2 | assembly voting therefore, the following amendment to the Constitution of the state be proposed |
3 | to the qualified electors of the state in accordance with the provisions of Article XIV of the |
4 | Constitution, for their approval and the following section is hereby amended, effective on January |
5 | 1, 2015, to read as follows: |
6 | ARTICLE VII |
7 | OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES |
8 | Section 1. Composition. -- There shall be one hundred (100) members of the house of |
9 | representatives, provided, however, that commencing in 2003 there shall be seventy-five (75) |
10 | members of the house of representatives. The house of representatives shall be constituted on the |
11 | basis of population and the representative districts, shall be fifty (50) in number, shall be as nearly |
12 | equal in population and as compact in territory as possible. Each representative district shall elect |
13 | two (2) members, one of whom shall be male and one of whom shall be female. The general |
14 | assembly shall, after any new census taken by authority of the United States, reapportion the |
15 | representation to conform to the Constitution of the state and the Constitution of the United |
16 | States. |
17 | RESOLVED, That the said proposition of amendment shall be submitted to the electors |
18 | of their approval or rejection at the next statewide general election. The voting places in the |
19 | several cities and towns shall be kept open during the hours required by law for voting therein for |

1 | general officers of the state; and be it further |
2 | That the secretary of state shall cause the said proposition of amendment to be published |
3 | as a part of this resolution in the newspapers of the state prior to the date of the said meetings of |
4 | the said electors; and the said proposition shall be inserted in the warrants or notices to be issued |
5 | previous to said meetings of the electors for the purpose of warning the town, ward, or district |
6 | meetings, and said proposition shall be read by the town, ward, or district meetings to be held as |
7 | aforesaid; and be it further |
8 | That the town, ward, and district meetings to be held aforesaid shall be warned, and the |
9 | list of voters shall be canvassed and made up, and the said town, ward, and district meetings shall |
10 | be conducted in the same manner as now provided by law for the town, ward, and district |
11 | meetings for the election of general officers of the state. |
