A N   A C T

RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES -- GAMBLING

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Lima, Costantino, and O`Neill

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 11-19-30 of the General Laws in Chapter 11-19 entitled "Gambling

and Lotteries" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     11-19-30. Definitions. -- The following definitions apply within this chapter:

4

      (a) "Charitable organization" means any benevolent, educational, philanthropic, humane,

5

patriotic, social service, civic, fraternal, police, labor, religious, eleemosynary person, and/or

6

persons holding themselves out to be a charitable organization.

      (b) "Charitable purpose" means any benevolent, educational, humane, patriotic, social

8

service, civic, fraternal, police, labor, religious, or eleemosynary purpose, provided that no part of

9

the net earnings inures to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual.

10

      (c) "Department" means the division of state police unless otherwise described.

11

      (d) "Director" means the superintendent of state police or the director's designee.

12

      (e) "Permitted game of chance" means the game commonly known as "Bingo" or

13

"Beano" or substantially the same game under any other name, or a raffle or lottery or that lottery

14

commonly known as a "twenty (20) week club", or temporary "casino gaming" as defined in ยง

15

42-61.2-1(8), not to exceed a period of four (4) consecutive days, commonly known as a "Las

16

Vegas Night".

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would allow charitable organizations to conduct temporary casino gaming not to

2

exceed a period of four (4) consecutive days, commonly known as a "Las Vegas Night".

     This act would take effect upon passage.
