	RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -- CITIES OF PROVIDENCE AND WARWICK AND
	THE TOWN OF PORTSMOUTH--SALES TAX ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Chapter 45-2 of the General Laws entitled "General Powers" is hereby
2	amended by adding thereto the following section:
3	45-2-3.4. Municipal sales tax on medical marijuana. – The cities of Providence and
4	Warwick, and the town of Portsmouth are hereby authorized and permitted to enact ordinances
5	providing for a sales tax of three percent (3%) on the sale of any medical marijuana sold in the
6	municipalities. The proceeds from the sales tax in Providence shall be annually appropriated to
7	the CODAC Providence Treatment Center, from sales in Warwick to the Kent County Substance
8	Abuse Program, and in Portsmouth to the Portsmouth Prevention Coalition. The funds shall be
9	used to provide effective environmental strategies directed at reducing adolescent use of
10	marijuana and other adolescent substance abuse.
11	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

1	This act would authorize the cities of Providence and Warwick, and the town of
2	Portsmouth to enact ordinances providing for a tax of three percent (3%) on the sale of medical
3	marijuana. The funds would be used for substance abuse prevention.
4	This act would take effect upon passage.
