THE TOWN OF PORTSMOUTH--SALES TAX ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 45-2 of the General Laws entitled "General Powers" is hereby |
2 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 45-2-3.4. Municipal sales tax on medical marijuana. – The cities of Providence and |
4 | Warwick, and the town of Portsmouth are hereby authorized and permitted to enact ordinances |
5 | providing for a sales tax of three percent (3%) on the sale of any medical marijuana sold in the |
6 | municipalities. The proceeds from the sales tax in Providence shall be annually appropriated to |
7 | the CODAC Providence Treatment Center, from sales in Warwick to the Kent County Substance |
8 | Abuse Program, and in Portsmouth to the Portsmouth Prevention Coalition. The funds shall be |
9 | used to provide effective environmental strategies directed at reducing adolescent use of |
10 | marijuana and other adolescent substance abuse. |
11 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
