	RELATING TO PUBLIC FINANCE - BUREAU OF AUDITS

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Chapter 35-7 of the General Laws entitled "Post Audit of Accounts" is
2	hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
3	35-7-7.1. Subpoena power. – The bureau of audits, with the approval of the director of
4	administration shall have the authority to issue subpoenas to compel the production of papers,
5	documents, or records, in connection with any audit or investigation conducted pursuant to this
6	chapter. If necessary, the bureau of audits may invoke the aid of the superior court to require the
7	production of documentary evidence.
8	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

	BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

	RELATING TO PUBLIC FINANCE - BUREAU OF AUDITS

1	This act would authorize the bureau of audits with the approval of the director of
2	administration to issue a subpoena for the production of documents and records in connection
3	with any audit or investigation, when necessary. The auditor general and the department of
4	business regulation have had this statutory authority since 2001.
5	This act would take effect upon passage.
