A N   A C T

RELATING TO SPORTS, RACING AND ATHLETICS - BOXING AND WRESTLING

     Introduced By: Representatives Keable, and Kazarian

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 41-5-22 of the General Laws in Chapter 41-5 entitled "Boxing and

Wrestling" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     41-5-22. Rules and regulations. -- The division of racing and athetics department of

business regulation may make such rules and regulations for the administration and enforcement

of this chapter as it may deem necessary. Provided, further, notwithstanding any provision of the

general or public laws to the contrary, the department of business regulation shall have the power

to adopt by rule or regulation, in whole or in part, any standards, rules, regulations, handbooks or

other standards and procedures governing boxing as approved by the American Boxing

Commission. The rules and regulations may also provide for and regulate the granting of a special

permit for exhibitions where no decision is to be rendered and where a skilled boxer or boxers

merely demonstrate the science of boxing.

     SECTION 2. Section 41-5.2-25 of the General Laws in Chapter 41-5.2 entitled "Mixed

Martial Arts" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     41-5.2-25. Rules and regulations. -- The division of racing and athletics department of

business regulation may make such rules and regulations for the administration and enforcement

of this chapter as it may deem necessary. Provided, further, notwithstanding any provision of the

general or public laws to the contrary, the department of business regulation shall have the power

to adopt by rule or regulation, in whole or in part, any standards, rules, regulations, handbooks or

other standards and procedures governing mixed martial arts as approved by the American

Boxing Commission. The rules and regulations may also provide for and regulate the granting of

a special permit for exhibitions where no decision is to be rendered and where skilled mixed

martial artists merely demonstrate the science of boxing.

     SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

RELATING TO SPORTS, RACING AND ATHLETICS - BOXING AND WRESTLING

     This act would transfer the regulatory and administrative duties for Mixed Martial Arts

and Boxing and Wrestling from the Division of Racing and Athletics to the Department of

Business Regulation.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
