EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO THE FOLAN FAMILY ON THE PASSING | |
OF RETIRED SERGEANT JAMES J. FOLAN OF THE PAWTUCKET POLICE | |

1 | WHEREAS, James J. Folan, son of the late William and Anabelle (McLaughlin) Folan, |
2 | was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He passed away on March 14, 2014. He was the beloved |
3 | husband of Catherine E. (Gibbons) Folan for 67 years; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Sergeant Folan, prior to becoming a police officer, served our nation with |
5 | honor and valor in World War II, as a member of the United States Navy. After the war, he |
6 | graduated from the New England Institute of Applied Art and Sciences and received a license in |
7 | embalming; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Shortly thereafter, Sergeant Folan became a member of the Pawtucket |
9 | Police Department, serving as an officer for over 37 years and rising to the rank of Sergeant. He |
10 | was a beloved and highly respected member of the Pawtucket Police Department and served the |
11 | citizens of Pawtucket with vigor, honor and integrity; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Off duty, Sergeant Folan enjoyed spending time with his sons and |
13 | participating in a variety of sporting activities. He was a volunteer coach for the Darlington |
14 | American Little League, the Fairlawn Football Cardinals, and the Pawtucket Crusaders; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Sergeant Folan leaves behind his wife Catherine, and his sons Francis W. |
16 | Folan, and his wife Carol, Michael P. Folan, and his wife Peggy, and Thomas J. Folan, and his |
17 | wife Kristine. He also leaves behind a brother, Richard Folan, six grandchildren and two great |
18 | grandchildren. He was the father of the late James J. Folan, Jr.; now, therefore be it |
19 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |

1 | Providence Plantations hereby expresses its deepest condolences to the Folan family on the |
2 | passing of James J. Folan; and be it further |
3 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
4 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Catherine E. Folan and Family. |
