RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MORGAN C. SMITH ON ACHIEVING SCOUTING'S | |
MOST DISTINGUISHED HONOR, THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT | |

1 | WHEREAS, In a society that grows increasingly fragmented, and too often tempts its |
2 | youth to selfish and unwise decisions, it is a special young man who chooses to dedicate himself |
3 | to the service of others by practicing the noble ideals of the Scout Oath and Scout Law; and |
4 | WHEREAS, In spite of peer pressure and other influences, there are those teenagers who |
5 | rise above the rest. Morgan Smith is just such a first-rate youth, and his accomplishments are |
6 | truly deserving of our recognition; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Morgan is a member of Troop 1, Arnolds Mills. Using his skills and |
8 | abilities for the common good, he has earned thirty-eight Merit badges, seventeen more than the |
9 | twenty-one required for the rank of Eagle. In addition, he is a member of the Boy Scout Order of |
10 | the Arrow; and |
11 | WHEREAS, As the highlight of his scouting career, Morgan took on the challenge of |
12 | rehabilitating the hiking and nature trails at the New Dawn Earth Center for his Eagle Scout |
13 | Project. He devoted countless hours and an amazing amount of energy redirecting water flow on a |
14 | rutted and particularly dangerous portion of the trail; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout requires considerable perseverance and is |
16 | considered to be the pinnacle of achievement within the Boys Scouts of America. This significant |
17 | achievement is a landmark attained by only seven percent of all the young men who enter |
18 | scouting. Morgan upholds the dignity and virtue of a true Eagle and has proven himself to be |
19 | worthy of trust and a truly dynamic leader; and |

1 | WHEREAS, In the fall, Morgan will be attending the University of Hartford where he |
2 | plans to study Aeronautical Engineering; and |
3 | WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth, and to |
4 | celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Morgan Smith is a remarkable young man |
5 | who exemplifies everything an Eagle Scout should be, and all that we hope our children will |
6 | grow to be; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
8 | Providence Plantations hereby honors Morgan Smith with pride and deep appreciation for his |
9 | many outstanding accomplishments. We encourage him to grow, mature and continue to be the |
10 | kind of determined and dedicated young man America needs; and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Eagle Scout Morgan Smith. |
