Introduced By: Representatives MacBeth, McLaughlin, Phillips, Ackerman, and O'Brien

     Date Introduced: March 19, 2014

Referred To: House read and passed

1

WHEREAS, Not every boy, nor even every Scout, qualifies for the high rank of Eagle.

2

Strenuous physical hurdles, high mental requirements, strong personal character, indomitable

3

spirit and a commitment to community service are a rare combination of qualities and

4

achievements to find in one person. Samuel Robinson is just such an extraordinary young man

5

and his accomplishments are truly worthy and deserving of our recognition and praise; and

6

WHEREAS, In spite of peer pressure and other influences, there are those teenagers who

7

rise to the challenge. Sam Robinson, a member of Troop 1, Arnolds Mills, is just such a first-rate

8

young man. Throughout his scouting career, he has demonstrated wide-ranging abilities, effective

9

skills and the kind of self-confidence that makes him a worthy leader. He has held several

10

leadership positions including Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and Troop Guide; and

11

WHEREAS, Learning important lifelong skills and values, Sam has earned thirty-one

12

merit badges, ten more than the requirement for Eagle. In addition, Sam is a member of the Order

13

of the Arrow; and

14

WHEREAS, As the highlight of his scouting years, Sam completed the final step toward

15

obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout by planning and carrying out an extensive Eagle service

16

project. He painted unique murals, designed according to the subjects taught in each area in the

17

hallways of the six wings of Cumberland High School; and

18

WHEREAS, Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout requires considerable perseverance and is

19

considered to be the pinnacle of achievement within the Boys Scouts of America. It is an

1

exceptional distinction achieved by only about seven percent of all the young men who enter

2

scouting; and

3

WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth, and to

4

celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Samuel Robinson is a remarkable young

5

man who exemplifies everything an Eagle Scout should be, and all that we hope our children will

6

grow to be; now, therefore be it

7

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

8

Providence Plantations hereby honors Samuel Robinson for his untiring service to the community

9

and for setting a high standard of commitment and dedication by which youth of this great state

10

may follow. We congratulate him for all he has done to attain the rank of Eagle Scout, and extend

11

our very best wishes for good health and happiness in the months and years ahead; and be it
