HONORING THE COVENTRY AIR FORCE JROTC PROGRAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING | |
SERVICE TO THE STUDENTS OF COVENTRY FOR OVER 40 YEARS, AND ALSO | |
HONORING ROTC CADETS LIEUTENANT COLONEL MASON RAPOSA, CAPTAIN | |
ARAM HINZ, AND SECOND LIEUTENANT HANNAH REID | |

1 | WHEREAS, For more than forty years, thanks in part to the superb current leadership |
2 | and instruction provided by Steven G. Buteau, Colonel, USAF (Ret), a Senior Aerospace Science |
3 | Instructor for six years at Coventry High School, and Marc L. Boulay, Master Sergeant, USAF |
4 | (Ret), an Aerospace Science Instructor for eight years at Coventry High School, the Coventry Air |
5 | Force JROTC program has helped young men and women interested in military service to take |
6 | their first steps towards attaining the necessary skills to ensure a successful military career or |
7 | achievement in other endeavors. By successfully completing their training and course work, each |
8 | cadet begins to develop their leadership skills, learns to become self-reliant, improves their |
9 | physical fitness, and begins to understand the value and importance of personal responsibility. |
10 | They also learn more about citizenship and the value of patriotism and service to one's country, |
11 | while at the same time improving their ability to communicate, learning how to work effectively |
12 | as a member of a team, and gaining a greater appreciation for the United States Armed Forces and |
13 | its role in support of attaining national objectives and securing our freedoms; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Mason Raposa is an outstanding young man and |
15 | cadet. He was the Cadet Commander for the Rhode Island 081st AFJROTC at Coventry High |
16 | School. He was also a member of the Championship RI-081st AFJROTC Falcon Drill Team |
17 | where he served for three years as Inspection Team Commander and one year as the Exhibition |
18 | Team Commander. He earned nine individual drill excellence awards and was a member of two |

1 | nationally ranked AFJROTC drill teams. He was also a member of the community color guard |
2 | and the unit honor guard. Additionally, he performed more than 100 hours of community service |
3 | at the local level in support of veteran's organizations. In honor of his outstanding four year |
4 | record as a cadet at Coventry High School, Cadet Raposa was named the recipient of the |
5 | American Legion General Military Excellence Award, the Reserve Officers Association Award, |
6 | was selected as the 2011 Freshman Cadet of the year, and the Junior Cadet of the Year for 2013. |
7 | He will continue his studies this fall at Johnson & Wales University; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Cadet Captain Aram Hinz, a member of the Community Color Guard and |
9 | Honor Guard, served as Commander of the 2014 Air Force Junior ROTC Falcon Drill Team, |
10 | Vice-Commander of the 2013 Air Force Junior ROTC Falcon Drill Team, and was the Regulation |
11 | Drill Team Commander for 2013/2014. He was the recipient of seven individual drill awards and |
12 | was a member of two United States Air Force nationally ranked drill teams. Cadet Hinz |
13 | performed more than 100 hours of community service in support of a local community and |
14 | veteran's organizations. He is the recipient of the Veterans of Foreign Wars award and the |
15 | Outstanding Cadet Award. He will leave in July to serve in the United States Army as a Satellite |
16 | Communications Technician; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Cadet Second Lieutenant Hannah Reid, a member of the Falcon Drill Team |
18 | for the last three years, has served as Squad Leader, Flight Commander, and Color Guard Bearer. |
19 | She received one national drill competition medal, and has served on the Community Color |
20 | Guard, where she completed more than 25 hours of community service. She will continue her |
21 | studies this fall at college; now, therefore be it |
22 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
23 | Providence Plantations hereby honors the Coventry Air Force JROTC program for its outstanding |
24 | service to the students of Coventry for over forty years; and be it further |
25 | RESOLVED, That this House hereby honors Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Mason Raposa, |
26 | Cadet Captain Aram Hinz, and Cadet Second Lieutenant Hannah Reid; and be it further |
27 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
28 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Mason Raposa, Cadet |
29 | Captain Aram Hinz, and Cadet Second Lieutenant Hannah Reid. |
