WELCOMING MARÍA LÓPEZ DE LEÓN TO THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, María López De León, Executive Director and Board Member of the |
2 | National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC), has spent the past two decades |
3 | diligently working with communities across the United States in a grass roots effort to promote, |
4 | develop, and inspire multiple arts and culture programs and initiatives; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Ms. De León has served as the Executive Director of NALAC for the past |
6 | ten years and has worked with the organization for the past fourteen years. During her tenure as |
7 | Executive Director, she has added greatly to the vibrancy of NALAC's programs and strategic |
8 | initiatives including the development of three grant programs, directed the continued |
9 | development of twelve editions of the renowned annual Leadership Institute, directed the |
10 | convening of five national arts and cultural conferences and dozens of regional arts training |
11 | workshops, oversaw the completion of production on Visiones, a six part documentary series on |
12 | Latino art and culture, and is leading the efforts to renovate a historic site in San Antonio that will |
13 | serve as NALAC’s national offices and the home to a national arts leadership training institute; |
14 | and |
15 | WHEREAS, In addition, Ms. De León has served on a plethora of arts and culture policy |
16 | panels, is a fellow of the Rockwood Leadership Institute and the Wallace Foundation |
17 | Leadership in Excellence and Arts Participation program, serves on the board of the |
18 | First People’s Fund, and is an advisory council member of San Anto Cultural Arts; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Earning the highest respect of her colleagues, Ms. De León was appointed |
20 | to serve on the Council of the Arts by President Barack Obama in January of 2013; and |

1 | WHEREAS, María López De León is eminently deserving of the leadership and trust she |
2 | has been afforded and she has fully distinguished herself as a person worthy of our recognition |
3 | and utmost admiration; now, therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
5 | Providence Plantations hereby warmly welcomes María López De León, Executive Director and |
6 | Board Member of the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, to the State of Rhode |
7 | Island. We honor and thank her for her myriad contributions to the betterment of our country and |
8 | wish her continued success, achievement, and much happiness; and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to María López De León. |
