H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO THE STRICKLIN FAMILY ON THE

PASSING OF ALEXANDRIA "ALEX" STRICKLIN

     WHEREAS, It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of grief that this House has

2

learned of the passing of Alexandria "Alex" Stricklin. Alexandria passed away at the tender age

3

of 14 on May 1, 2014, at the Boston Children’s Hospital; and

4

     WHEREAS, Alexandria was the cherished and adored daughter of Reverend Todd and

5

Maureen A. (Pontes) Stricklin. She was diagnosed at an early age with Childhood Pulmonary

6

Hypertension, but refused to allow this diagnosis to prevent her from living the fullest life

7

possible. She loved music, art and sewing and although she was unable to take part in sports, she

8

was always an exuberant supporter of her older brothers' athletic and outdoors activities. She was

9

home schooled, currently in the ninth grade, and had aspirations to become a pediatric nurse; and

10

     WHEREAS, Alexandria was a very active member of the youth group at the Narragansett

11

Bay Baptist Church. She lived her life filled with love for the Lord and had the profound ability

12

to make others around her feel comfortable, loved and special. She was a devoted child of God,

13

daughter to her parents, and sister to her older brothers. Her beautiful smile, cheerful disposition,

14

and empathy for others will be sorely missed by all who knew her and loved her; and

15

     WHEREAS, Besides her parents, Alexandria also leaves behind her brothers, Trevor

16

Stricklin and Torrey Stricklin, her "sisters" Christa A. Fischer and Shelby D. Palafox, and her

17

grandparents David and Gladys Pontes, Kenneth and Lee Stricklin, and Carlene Stricklin; now,

18

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby expresses its deepest condolences to the Stricklin family on the

2

passing of Alexandria "Alex" Stricklin; and be it further

3

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

4

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Reverend Todd and Maureen A. Stricklin.
