RECOGNIZING MAY 6TH-12TH AS "NATIONAL NURSES WEEK" | |

1 | WHEREAS, The nearly three million registered nurses in the United States comprise our |
2 | nation's largest health care profession; and |
3 | WHEREAS, The depth and breadth of the registered nursing profession meet the |
4 | different and emerging health care needs of the American population in a wide range of settings; |
5 | and |
6 | WHEREAS, The American Nurses Association, as the voice for the registered nurses of |
7 | this country, is working to chart a new course for a healthy nation that relies on increasing |
8 | delivery of primary and preventive health care; and |
9 | WHEREAS, A renewed emphasis on primary and preventive health care will require the |
10 | better utilization of all of our nation's registered nursing resources; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Professional nursing has been demonstrated to be an indispensable |
12 | component in the safety and quality of care of hospitalized patients; and |
13 | WHEREAS, The demand for registered nursing services will be greater than ever |
14 | because of the aging of the American population, the continuing expansion of life-sustaining |
15 | technology, and the explosive growth of home health care services; and |
16 | WHEREAS, More qualified registered nurses will be needed in the future to meet the |
17 | increasingly complex needs of health care consumers in this community; and |
18 | WHEREAS, The cost-effective, safe, and quality health care services provided by |
19 | registered nurses will be an ever more important component of the U.S. health care delivery |
20 | system in the future; now, therefore be it |

1 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2 | Providence Plantations hereby joins the Rhode Island State Nurses Association and the American |
3 | Nurses Association in recognizing the week of May 6th through May 12th of 2014, as "National |
4 | Nurses Week" in celebration of the ways in which registered nurses strive to provide safe and |
5 | high-quality patient care and map out improvements to our health care system; and be it further |
6 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives hereby urges the residents of this state |
7 | to join us in honoring the registered nurses who care for all of us. We furthermore celebrate |
8 | registered nursing's accomplishments and efforts to improve our health care system and extend |
9 | our appreciation for the nation's registered nurses not just during this week, but also at every |
10 | opportunity throughout the year; and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island State Nurses Association. |
