CONGRATULATING THE HONORABLE TERRENCE M. HASSETT FOR RECEIVING

THE CHARLES B. WILLARD PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FROM RHODE

ISLAND COLLEGE

     WHEREAS, Providence City Councilman Terrence M. Hassett graduated from Rhode

Island College with a B.A. degree in Political Science and a minor in Public Administration; and

     WHEREAS, Terrence Hassett has had a very long and distinguished professional career,

serving the public with honor, integrity and tireless devotion. He previously served as Director of

Investigations of the Consumer Protection Division for the Department of the Rhode Island

Attorney General. He also worked closely with the White Collar Crime Center and various

consumer protection organizations. He currently serves our state as a Senior Investigator in the

Workers' Compensation Fraud and Compliance Unit at the Rhode Island Department of Labor

and Training; and

     WHEREAS, Terrence Hassett was first elected to represent sections of Smith Hill and

Mount Pleasant on the Providence City Council in a special election in 1997. He has been

subsequently re-elected in 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010; and

     WHEREAS, Terrence Hassett served as the Providence City Council Majority Leader

from 2007 to 2011, and currently serves as President Pro Tempore of the Providence City Council

and the Chairman of the Committee on Public Works. He has served as a member of the

Providence Redevelopment Agency, the Capital Center Commission, and the State Transportation

Advisory Committee. He was also the former Chairman of the Special Study Commission on Tax

Exempt Institutions; and

     WHEREAS, Councilman Hassett, prior to being elected to the City Council, served as a

member of the Rhode Island State Board of Regents for Education, the Subcommittee for Post-

Secondary Education, the Rhode Island Adult Education Commission, the Rhode Island Public

Telecommunications Authority, and as Chairman of the General Manager's Search Committee at

WSBE-TV Channel 36; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the Honorable Terrence M. Hassett for receiving the

Charles B. Willard Professional Achievement Award from Rhode Island College; and be it

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Terrence M. Hassett, President

Pro Tempore, Providence City Council.
