EXPRESSING OUR HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JOSEPH

RAIMONDO

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Joseph

2

Raimondo, the beloved husband of fifty-eight years to Josephine Piro Raimondo, the devoted

3

father of Dr. Marianne Raimondo, Dr. Thomas Raimondo, and the Honorable Dr. Gina

4

Raimondo, Rhode Island General Treasurer. He was also the very proud grandfather of Theresa

5

and Emilia Raimondo, Gianna and Peter Jasinski, and Cecilia and Thompson Moffit, and the

6

father-in-law of David Jasinski, Dr. Sheila Raimondo, and Andrew Moffit; and

7

     WHEREAS, Born in Providence, Mr. Raimondo was the son of Tomasso and Angelina

8

Raimondo. He is also survived by his brother, Anthony Raimondo; and

9

     WHEREAS, Dedicated to giving back to his country and the community, Joseph

10

Raimondo served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy during World

11

War II. He served aboard the U.S.S. Amsterdam in the South Pacific; and

12

     WHEREAS, Upon returning from service, Mr. Raimondo attended the University of

13

Alabama through the G.I. Bill and earned his degree in Chemistry and Metallurgy. For twenty-six

14

years, he worked for the Bulova Watch Company, where he rose to the position of Chief of

15

Materials Science; and

16

     WHEREAS, Earning the respect of his peers, Mr. Raimondo was often sought out for his

17

insightful knowledge of the industry. He taught electrochemistry and electroplating at the Jewelry

18

Institute and had worked as a consultant for myriad jewelry companies; and

19

     WHEREAS, Mr. Raimondo had been a faithful communicant of St. Philip Church in

Greenville since 1963, and had volunteered for numerous local groups and organizations

2

including, the St. Philip Boy Scouts troop, the PALS organization for LaSalle Academy, and

3

later, as a science teacher at the San Miguel School in Providence; and

4

     WHEREAS, Joseph Raimondo was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a

5

hardworking man who believed in the value of education. He was greatly loved and widely-

6

admired and he will be terribly missed; now, therefore be it

7

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

8

Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to the entire Raimondo Family

9

on the passing of Joseph Raimondo; and be it further

10

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

11

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Josephine Piro Raimondo.
