A N   A C T

RELATING TO TERM LENGTHS FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS IN THE CITY OF

WARWICK

     Introduced By: Representatives Naughton, Ferri, McNamara, Bennett, and Serpa

     Referred To: House Municipal Government

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Per resolution of the Warwick city council, it is hereby approved that the

city council is authorized to amend the city charter to allow the mayor and members of the city

council to lengthen the term of office for the mayor and members of the city council from two (2)

to four (4) years commencing January, 2017, subject to approval by the voters of the city of

Warwick.

     SECTION 2. In response to said resolution, there shall be submitted to the qualified

electors of the city of Warwick at the general election to be held on November 4, 2014, for their

approval of the following question:

     "Shall the charter of the city of Warwick be amended as follows: For elective terms

commencing January, 2017, the term of office for mayor and city councilors shall be four (4)

years in length."

     SECTION 3. Section 2 of this act shall take effect upon passage and Section 1 shall take

effect when the board of canvassers shall certify to the Warwick city council that a majority of

the qualified electors voting upon the question contained in Section 2 shall have voted to approve

the same.
