HONORING SERGEANT PAUL H. BROUSSEAU ON THE OCCASION OF HIS | |
RETIREMENT FROM THE PROVIDENCE POLICE DEPARTMENT | |

1 | WHEREAS, Throughout history, our nation has been propitiously blessed with men and |
2 | women who are willing to step forward and safeguard the freedoms and liberties we hold so dear. |
3 | These often unsung heroes go about the day-to-day task of upholding the laws of this state and it |
4 | is fitting that we recognize their value and myriad contributions; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Paul Brousseau is a graduate of West Warwick High School and received |
6 | his Associate's degree and subsequently, his Bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Bryant |
7 | University. He and his wife Maureen currently make their home in the City of Warwick; and |
8 | WHEREAS, To the very good fortune of the citizens of Providence, on June 14, 1981, |
9 | Mr. Brousseau was appointed to the Providence Police Department and assigned to the Uniform |
10 | Division. After being transferred to the Tactical Bureau, he was promoted to the rank of |
11 | Detective; and |
12 | WHEREAS, By consistently demonstrating integrity and outstanding leadership skills, |
13 | Detective Brousseau rose through the ranks. In December of 1988, he was promoted to the rank |
14 | of Sergeant and assigned to the Uniform Division, and was later assigned to the Neighborhood |
15 | Response Team and the Public Housing Unit on the Uniform Division. On April 1st of 2003, |
16 | Sergeant Brousseau transferred to the Prosecution Bureau as a member of the Administrative |
17 | Staff; and |
18 | WHEREAS, If called upon, today’s police officers must not only be willing and able to |
19 | "Protect and Serve," they must also be ready to step into deadly situations with proficiency and |

1 | with little regard for their own safety. Sergeant Brousseau has earned numerous awards and |
2 | honors for his service including the Mayor's Award, two Chief's awards, two American Legion |
3 | awards, and myriad memoranda of merit and letters of commendation; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Sergeant Brousseau is "an officer and a gentleman" and the citizenry of |
5 | Providence and Rhode Island lead far safer and more secure lives due to his outstanding police |
6 | work. His dedication to duty and respect for his fellow police officers will be sorely missed, |
7 | although there is little doubt that in his heart he will always be part of the force and a brother in |
8 | blue; now, therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
10 | Providence Plantations hereby recognizes, honors, and thanks Sergeant Paul H. Brousseau on the |
11 | occasion of his retirement after thirty-three years of steadfast and unselfish service to the people |
12 | of Providence and the State of Rhode Island. We wish him good health, fulfillment, and |
13 | continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further |
14 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
15 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Providence Police Sergeant Paul Brousseau. |
