     STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY

JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2014

____________

S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS ON THEIR STERLING 2013-2014

NFL SEASON THUS FAR AND WISHING THEM GOOD LUCK IN THEIR AFC

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME BEING PLAYED ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 19, 2014, AGAINST

THE DENVER BRONCOS

Introduced By: Senators Jabour, and Picard

     Date Introduced: January 15, 2014

Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration

1

WHEREAS, The New England Patriots have once again thrilled their fans and all of New

2

England by their play throughout the 2013 NFL season. The Patriots won the AFC East once

3

again, posting a dominating 12-4 record, winning thrilling regular season victories over the

4

Denver Broncos and the New Orleans Saints, and easily winning their division. The Patriots were

5

led by an explosive offense that scored the second most points in the NFL and a tough and stingy

6

defense; and

7

WHEREAS, Tom Brady, the best quarterback in the NFL, once again posted incredible

8

passing numbers. He completed 63 percent of his passes, threw for over 4,800 yards, threw 34

9

touchdown passes against only 8 interceptions, and compiled a superb 98.7 passing rating. Tom

10

Brady is also feared throughout the NFL for his knack of coming through in the clutch in the big

11

games. Peyton Manning is certainly aware of this phenomenon since Brady has had more success

12

against Peyton Manning quarterbacked teams than any other quarterback in NFL history; and

13

WHEREAS, In their first playoff game of the 2013-2014 season, the Patriots dominated

14

the Indianapolis Colts, beating them by a score of 43 to 22, to qualify for their eighth AFC

15

Championship game since Brady became the starting quarterback for the Patriots in 2001; and

16

WHEREAS, The Patriots are led once again by the best head coach in the NFL, Bill

17

Belichick. Since becoming the head coach of the Patriots in 2000, he has compiled an incredible

18

158-50 regular season record and won more than 75 percent of his regular season games as the

1

head coach of the Patriots. He has also won eleven AFC East divisional Titles since 2001, has

2

played in five Super Bowls and won three Super Bowls. Coach Belichick has also compiled since

3

2001, an astounding 18-7 record in post-season games; now, therefore be it

4

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

5

hereby congratulates the New England Patriots on their successful and exciting 2013-2014 NFL

6

season thus far, and wishes them much success in their AFC Championship game in Denver,

7

Colorado, against the Denver Broncos; and be it further

8

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

9

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to New England Patriots owner Robert K. Kraft.
