HONORING JOSEPH B. NADEAU ON RECEIVING THE PATRIOT OF THE YEAR

AWARD FOR 2014

     WHEREAS, The United Veterans' Council of Woonsocket has bestowed the title of

2

"Patriot of the Year" on local Woonsocket Call reporter Joseph B. Nadeau. Only two others have

3

received this prestigious distinction in the past decade; and

4

     WHEREAS, The award is conferred on individuals based on their reporting "to inform

5

the community of local, national, and historical veteran efforts of all military branches that

6

support Woonsocket and surrounding communities"; and

7

     WHEREAS, Mr. Nadeau has written a panoply of first-hand observations, including

8

articles on the home-stretch journey of a U.S. Navy Destroyer returning from combat, a seat

9

aboard a C-130 in both Panama and Puerto Rico and a visit to Guantanamo Bay with the Army

10

National Guard, the loss and memorial for local resident Amy Jarret who had been a flight

11

attendant on Flight 175 which was crashed by terrorists into the World Trade Center on 9-11; and

12

     WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Nadeau has covered myriad local veteran award and

13

supporter ceremonies from a local hero earning the Silver-Star to the erection of monuments

14

honoring the bravery of our veterans throughout history; and

15

     WHEREAS, Mr. Nadeau is a graduate of Woonsocket High School, the Community

16

College of Rhode Island, and Rhode Island College. He resides in the City of Woonsocket with

17

his wife Linda and their sons, Jonathan and Jeremy; and 

18

     WHEREAS, Joseph Nadeau is eminently deserving of the accolades and regard he has

19

been afforded. He has earned the loyalty of his readers, the admiration of his colleagues and

veterans across the state, and he has fully distinguished himself as a person worthy of our

2

recognition; now, therefore be it

3

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

4

hereby recognizes and congratulates Joseph Nadeau on being a recipient of the Patriot of the Year

5

award from the United Veterans' Council of Woonsocket. We moreover extend our deepest

6

appreciation for his service to this country and extend our best wishes for his continued success,

7

health, and happiness; and be it further

8

      RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

9

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Joseph B. Nadeau.
