RELATING TO ELECTIONS - GENERAL STATE OFFICERS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 17-2 of the General Laws entitled "General State Officers" is |
2 | hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 17-2-4.1. Vacancies in the office of lieutenant governor. – If the office of lieutenant |
4 | governor shall become vacant or shall have become vacant by reason of death, resignation or |
5 | otherwise, the general assembly in grand committee shall elect a person who would otherwise be |
6 | eligible to both run for the office and hold the office of lieutenant governor pursuant to the |
7 | constitution of the state of Rhode Island, to fill said vacancy. |
8 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
