It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 16-63 of the General Laws entitled "Adult Education [ See Title 16 |
2 | Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board of Education Act]" is hereby amended by adding thereto |
3 | the following section: |
4 | 16-63-18. High school equivalency tests -- Costs. – (a) The board shall consider all |
5 | available high school equivalency tests that adhere to state academic standards in determining |
6 | which test shall be utilized and recognized by the state. Putting a priority on achieving the lowest |
7 | cost to test takers, the board shall also consider: |
8 | (1) The recognition of the test, or lack thereof, by other states; |
9 | (2) The portability of the test; and |
10 | (3) Such other criteria that meet the needs of the test-takers. |
11 | (b) The board shall adopt regulations for a waiver of the fees associated with the high |
12 | school equivalency test that shall include a sliding-fee scale as determined by the Rhode Island |
13 | department of elementary and secondary education. |
14 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
