RELATING TO FISH AND WILDLIFE -- HUNTING AND HUNTING SAFETY

     

     Introduced By: Senators Ciccone, Felag, Walaska, Lombardi, and Lombardo

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 20-13-13 of the General Laws in Chapter 20-13 entitled "Hunting

and Hunting Safety" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     20-13-13. Restriction on size of weapons and ammunition. -- Whoever uses or has in

4

his or her possession while hunting in this state any rifle: (a) larger than a twenty-two (22) caliber

5

rim fire rifle; or (b) other than a muzzle loading rifle; or (c) other than any shotgun and shells

6

loaded with ball, bullets, slug; or shot larger than number two (no. 2) 00 ("double-aught") shot,

7

shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars ($500) or imprisoned not exceeding thirty (30)

8

days, or both; provided, however, that from April 1 to September 30, both dates inclusive, no

9

center fire rifles larger than .229 caliber may be used during daylight hours; and provided further,

10

that persons hunting water fowl in a blind or over decoys may use steel shot of size number one

11

(no. 1) or BB.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would change the maximum size of shotgun shells a person may have on his or

2

her possession while hunting from a number two (no. 2) shot to a 00 ("double-aught") shot.

3

     This act would take effect upon passage.
