CONGRATULATING THE BURRILLVILLE GIRLS SOCCER TEAM ON WINNING THE | |
2013 RHODE ISLAND DIVISION II GIRLS SOCCER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP | |

1 | WHEREAS, Finishing the regular season with a 10-3-1 record, the Burrillville Girls |
2 | Soccer Team entered the Rhode Island Division II State Tournament as the third-seeded team. |
3 | After defeating West Warwick 2-1 in a thrilling Semi-Final match highlighted by Hailee Jarry's |
4 | two goals, Burrillville advanced to the championship game; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Burrillville entered the championship game as an underdog, but emerged |
6 | victorious when they stunned top-seeded and undefeated Lincoln by scoring four unanswered |
7 | goals, including two magnificent goals by Junior Kathryn Antoniello, to win the 2013 Girls |
8 | Soccer Division II State Championship at Rhode Island College, and to claim their first state title |
9 | since 1993; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Burrillville was led all season by the superb leadership of Senior Co- |
11 | Captains Tori Libby and Taylor Ross. Their hard work and vocal support from their teammates |
12 | was vital to the overall success of the Burrillville team this season; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Burrillville's stingy defense was a key component to the success of the |
14 | Broncos all season and, in particular, in the State Tournament. Burrillville has a superb defensive |
15 | backfield with Sydney Blais, Mikaela Messier, Caitlin Libby and Isis VanPutten together forming |
16 | an almost impenetrable defensive wall; and |
17 | WHEREAS, The goalkeeper is arguably the most important position on a soccer team |
18 | and Burrillville has a gem in Catherine Keable. Her calm demeanor and consistent play was a |
19 | crucial component to Burrillville's success this season and when they needed her to come up with |

1 | a big save in the championship game, she proved she was a clutch performer when she stopped a |
2 | Lincoln player on a breakaway, making a magnificent save to keep a low screaming shot out of |
3 | the net; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Burrillville was also blessed all season and in the playoffs with the timely |
5 | scoring provided by Hailee Jarry and Kathryn Antoniello, as well as the strong play contributed |
6 | by a solid supporting cast, including Victoria Libby, Sarah Rogers, and Chelsea Almeida. |
7 | Burrillville also benefited by the superb coaching provided by Amy Cardone, Meghan Scotland |
8 | and Goalie Coach Eileen Liberty; now, therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
10 | hereby congratulates the Burrillville Girls Soccer Team on winning the 2013 Rhode Island |
11 | Division II Girls Soccer State Championship; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Burrillville Girls Soccer Coach Amy Cardone. |
