S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JOHN W. MEEHAN

     

     Introduced By: Senators P Fogarty, Metts, Ottiano, Miller, and Raptakis

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of John

2

W. Meehan, husband to the "love of his life" Mary Lou, the proud dad of twin daughters,

3

Madison and McKenzie, and a well-respected, admired, and well-known "standup guy" in

4

business and the Glocester community; and

5

     WHEREAS, John was also affectionately known as "Johnny" and "Rocko" to his legion

6

of loyal friends. In addition to his wife and daughters, John is survived by his mother Muriel, his

7

brothers Jim, Brian, Colin, Kevin, his sisters Patricia and Sharon, and many, cousins, nieces,

8

nephews, and additional close family; and

9

     WHEREAS, Upon graduation from La Salle Academy, John attended Phillips Academy

10

Andover, and was a 1981 graduate of Yale University; and

11

     WHEREAS, Throughout his school years, John had played ice hockey. After college, he

12

continued his favorite pastime as a professional hockey player in Europe playing for the Hielo

13

Puigcerda Club in Puigcerda, Spain where he and his teammates captured Spain's National

14

Championship Title. Throughout his adult years, he continued to play hockey in various leagues

15

around the state; and

16

      WHEREAS, Putting his degree in Architecture to work, John started his own business,

17

Meehan Builders. An astute businessman and talented craftsman, he built beautiful family homes

18

and a thriving career; and

19

     WHEREAS, John Meehan was a brave and humble soul who was blessed with the

20

devotion and loyalty of his family and friends. In return, he gave all who knew him his best

efforts, his unrelenting good humor, and his unconditional love. He will be dearly missed and

2

always remembered; now, therefore be it

3

      RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

4

hereby expresses our deepest sympathy on the passing of John W. Meehan; and be it further

5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

6

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mary Lou Meehan and Family.
