RELATING TO PUBLIC FINANCE - BUREAU OF AUDITS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 35-7 of the General Laws entitled "Post Audit of Accounts" is |
2 | hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 35-7-7.1. Subpoena power. – The bureau of audits, with the approval of the director of |
4 | administration shall have the authority to issue subpoenas to compel the production of papers, |
5 | documents, or records, in connection with any audit or investigation conducted pursuant to this |
6 | chapter. If necessary, the bureau of audits may invoke the aid of the superior court to require the |
7 | production of documentary evidence. |
8 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

2 | administration to issue a subpoena for the production of documents and records in connection |
3 | with any audit or investigation, when necessary. The auditor general and the department of |
4 | business regulation have had this statutory authority since 2001. |
5 | This act would take effect upon passage. |
