RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE RHODE ISLAND DENTAL ASSOCIATION

AND DENTAL LIFELINE NETWORK • RHODE ISLAND’S DONATED DENTAL

SERVICES (DDS) PROGRAM, FOR DONATING $5 MILLION IN DENTAL TREATMENT

TO PEOPLE IN RHODE ISLAND WITH DISABILITIES OR WHO ARE ELDERLY OR

MEDICALLY FRAGILE

     WHEREAS, Twenty-five years ago, in 1989, Dental Lifeline Network • Rhode Island

2

and the Rhode Island Dental Association established the Donated Dental Services (DDS)

3

Program; and

4

WHEREAS, Through the DDS Program, dentists and dental laboratories donate

5

comprehensive treatment for people with disabilities or persons who are elderly or medically

6

fragile and cannot afford dental care; and

7

WHEREAS, Almost 170 dentists and 70 dental labs volunteer for the DDS

8

Program. Since the Program’s inception, they have treated almost 2,800 people with disabilities

9

or who are elderly or medically fragile with seriously neglected dental problems throughout

10

Rhode Island; and

11

WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Donated Dental Services (DDS) Program will reach a

12

milestone of $5 million in donated dental services through the generosity and benevolence of

13

dentists and laboratories throughout the State of Rhode Island; and

14

     WHEREAS, The strength and success of the State of Rhode Island, the vitality of our

15

communities, and the effectiveness of society depend, in great measure, upon concerned and

16

devoted programs as exemplified by the Rhode Island Donated Dental Services (DDS) Program;

17

now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates and expresses profound gratitude to the Rhode Island Dental Association,

2

Dental Lifeline Network • Rhode Island and the hundreds of DDS volunteer dentists and dental

3

laboratories who have provided $5 million in donated dental care to almost 2,800 vulnerable

4

people in Rhode Island who would not otherwise receive comprehensive dental treatment; and be

5

it further

6

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

7

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Dental Lifeline Network • Rhode Island and

8

the Rhode Island Dental Association.
