S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING ERIN O'CONNELL ON BEING NAMED "MISS IRELAND" BY THE

FRIENDLY SONS OF ST. PATRICK

     

     Introduced By: Senators Raptakis, Satchell, McCaffrey, Walaska, and Lynch

     WHEREAS, The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick support and promote Irish heritage and

2

culture. Erin O'Connell, a bonnie lass with a beguiling twinkle in her eyes, has been selected as

3

"Miss Ireland" for 2014 by the Friendly Sons; and

4

     WHEREAS, Ms. O'Connell will be featured on a float with members of her court, at the

5

St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 16th; and

6

     WHEREAS, A senior at Coventry High School, Ms. O'Connell has maintained academic

7

excellence, and has donated more than 100 hours volunteering at Kent County Memorial

8

Hospital. She has also participated in Cross County, Track and DECA, and represented her high

9

school at "Girls State" in 2013; and

10

     WHEREAS, Erin has chosen to attend the University of New Haven in the fall of 2014

11

where she plans to major in Criminal Justice; and

12

     WHEREAS, In addition to her academics, volunteer work, and sports affiliations, Erin

13

enjoys playing guitar, spending time with friends and family, and traveling. She has also been

14

actively involved with the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade festivities

15

since she was a toddler; and

16

     WHEREAS, Erin O'Connell is an outstanding young lady who has already accumulated a

17

plethora of honors in her short lifetime, and we are proud to congratulate and recognize her

18

dazzling record of accomplishments; now, therefore be it

19

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby joins the fine organization, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, in celebrating Erin O'Connell

2

being named "Miss Ireland." May the eternal enchantment of the Emerald Isle infuse the life of

3

this lovely colleen and hold her under its gentle spell all the days of her life; and be it further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Erin O'Connell.
