RECOGNIZING AND THANKING THE MARCH OF DIMES, THE NATIONAL | |
AMBASSADORS AND STATE AMBASSADOR FAMILIES, AND ALL THE DEDICATED | |
VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE HELPED TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF MOMS AND | |
BABIES IN OUR STATE AND ACROSS THIS NATION | |

1 | WHEREAS, The March of Dimes was originally founded in 1938 by President Franklin |
2 | D. Roosevelt to fight polio, a growing public health concern at the time. The foundation funded |
3 | the development of two vaccines – still in use today – that virtually eliminated the crippling |
4 | disease; and |
5 | WHEREAS, With its original mission accomplished, the March of Dimes sought out a |
6 | new mission. Today, the organization works to improve the health of women of childbearing age, |
7 | infants, and children by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality; and |
8 | WHEREAS, More than four million babies were born in the United States last year, and |
9 | the March of Dimes helped all of them through research, education, vaccines, and breakthroughs; |
10 | and |
11 | WHEREAS, The March of Dimes was also there for more than half a million babies born |
12 | too soon, over 1,300 of them right here in Rhode Island; and |
13 | WHEREAS, The March of Dimes and its volunteers continue to advocate for state health |
14 | policies and programs that affect women of childbearing age, infants, children, and families; now, |
15 | therefore be it |
16 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
17 | hereby warmly welcomes the 2014 March of Dimes National Ambassadors, Jill Teeters, David |
18 | Lamothe, and Aidan Lamothe, and the 2014 Rhode Island Ambassador families, the Mirandas |

1 | and Lubolds; and be it further |
2 | RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby recognizes and thanks the March of Dimes, the |
3 | National Ambassadors and State Ambassador families, and the organization's dedicated |
4 | volunteers and supporters whose continued efforts have helped to improve the health of moms |
5 | and babies thereby ensuring that stronger, healthier babies are born in Rhode Island. We |
6 | furthermore sincerely wish them continued health and success; and be it further |
7 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
8 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the March of Dimes, Rhode Island Chapter. |
