S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING PROFOUND SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF JANE ARLENE WATSON

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Jane

2

Arlene Watson, beloved wife for over fifty years to the late Robert W. Watson, and the devoted

3

mother of one daughter, Stephanie Watson, and three sons, David Watson, our friend and former

4

colleague The Honorable Robert A. Watson, and Michael Watson; and

5

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Watson was an extremely vivacious, loving, and brilliant woman. She

6

was a graduate of Pembroke College in Brown University and had been a teacher with the

7

Warwick School Department for thirty-five years, where she had taken great delight in teaching

8

the gifted student program for the last few years of her career; and

9

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Watson's caring personality created and nurtured a marriage that

10

flourished, and a home that was warm and welcoming. She doted on her family, and her patient

11

and caring nature made her the kind of mother that every child needs and deserves; and

12

     WHEREAS, In addition to her family and teaching, Mrs. Watson was very active in the

13

community and with local politics, which she undoubtedly instilled in her son, Bob. She had

14

served on the East Greenwich School Committee for eight years and was a member of the

15

Republican Town Committee. Bob went on to serve in the General Assembly as a State Senator

16

from 1989 until 1991, and in the House of Representatives from 1993 until his retirement in 2012.

17

He was elected Minority Leader by his peers and served from 1998 until 2011; and

18

     WHEREAS, Over the years the Watson's home was shared by a myriad of friends, happy

19

times, and smiling faces. Jane Watson was the heart and soul of her family. Her wit, humor, and

20

sincerity will forever be indelibly imprinted on the lives and in the cherished memories of her

entire family. She enriched the lives of all who had the good fortune to have known her and she

2

will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it

3

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

4

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Jane Arlene Watson. She will be

5

forever remembered as a devoted wife and loving mother; and be it further

6

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

7

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to The Honorable Robert A. Watson.
