EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE KATHLEEN | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness and regret that this Senate has learned of the |
2 | untimely passing of Kathleen Ann Magill, mother of William Magill and his wife, Colleen, Karen |
3 | Magill, and Elizabeth Keough and her husband, Steven; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Born in Providence, Kathy was the daughter of the late William McMullen, |
5 | and the late Floretta McMullen. Her mother had passed away when she was quite young but she |
6 | had been fortunate to have had a loving stepmother, Mary McMullen. She is also survived by her |
7 | sister, Maureen Ryerson, by her loyal canine companion, Sophie, and by her former husband, |
8 | Robert T. Magill; and |
9 | WHEREAS, In addition to her children and stepmother, Kathy leaves behind her |
10 | beautiful grandchildren, Kendall and Kate Magill, William and Henry Connor, and Jack, Sarah |
11 | and Evan Keough, all of whom she adored, as well as numerous good friends and extended |
12 | family; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Kathy Magill has a place in history as the first woman elected to the |
14 | Pawtucket City Council, where she served the people of the city for eight years. She was also the |
15 | first woman to run for the Office of Mayor in the City of Pawtucket, and was a member of the |
16 | Pawtucket Second Ward Committee from 1979 until her passing. She had been employed at the |
17 | Department of Attorney General, and subsequently for the Joint Committee on Legislative |
18 | Services, from which she retired; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Kathy was actively involved in community affairs. Most noteworthy, she |

1 | was a founding member and had volunteered her time and energies to Pawtucket's St. Patrick's |
2 | Day Parade Committee for almost three decades. In addition, she had served as a member of the |
3 | City's Purchasing Board and previously, the City's Planning and Redevelopment Agency; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Kathy Magill had the courage to be a trailblazer and a smile that could light |
5 | up a room. She devoted many years of her life in service to the people of the City of Pawtucket |
6 | and this state, and she will be dearly missed by her family and many friends in the community; |
7 | now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
9 | hereby expresses its deepest sympathies on the passing of The Honorable Kathleen Ann Magill; |
10 | and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to William and Colleen Magill, Karen Magill, and |
13 | Elizabeth and Steven Keough. |
