EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE | |
JOHN JOSEPH "JACK" CROWLEY, JR. | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of the |
2 | Honorable John Joseph "Jack" Crowley Jr., 71, of Newport, Rhode Island, on May 16, 2014; and |
3 | WHEREAS, John Crowley, better known as "Jack" by his friends and family, was born |
4 | in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1943, son of the late John and Adele (McClanahan) Crowley. He |
5 | attended St. Joseph's School and graduated from De La Salle Academy in 1961. He was |
6 | employed by the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority for thirty years before retiring in 2011. |
7 | He had previously worked as a journeyman plumber for Donovan Bros. and Electric Boat; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mr. Crowley was a lifelong Democrat who loved and served his native City |
9 | of Newport, with honor, devotion and integrity. He was elected to serve as a Newport City |
10 | Council member, representing the First Ward, from 1986 to 1992. He was also a member of the |
11 | Democratic City Committee and was a State Committeeman. He further served the citizens of |
12 | Newport as a member of the Zoning Board of Review, on the Board of Directors of the Newport |
13 | County YMCA, and as a Commissioner of the Newport Housing Authority; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Mr. Crowley was a Past Grand Knight of the Newport/Middletown Knights |
15 | of Columbus, Council 256, and was a past Faithful Navigator of the General Rosecrans Assembly |
16 | of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He loved to travel, explore his Irish heritage, and collect |
17 | political memorabilia; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Jack Crowley leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Patricia Crowley, his |
19 | children, Linda Nannini, and her husband Steve, Karen Crowley, Joanne Ferretti, and her husband |

1 | James, Cathleen Crowley, and John Crowley, III, and his wife Vicki. He also leaves behind his |
2 | grandchildren, Lauren Case, and her husband Justin, Zachary Crowley, Danielle Nannini, Ike, |
3 | Oscar and Emmett Yob, and Maren, McKenna, and John Patrick Crowley, and his great- |
4 | grandchildren, Dillon and Abagail Case. In addition, he leaves behind his brother, Dennis P. |
5 | Crowley, and was predeceased by his brother Michael F. Crowley and sister Margaret Ann |
6 | Hanna; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
8 | hereby expresses its deepest condolences to the Crowley family on the passing of John Joseph |
9 | "Jack" Crowley, Jr.; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Patricia Crowley. |
