CONGRATULATING MIDDLETOWN HIGH SCHOOL ON BEING RANKED AS ONE OF | |
THE FIVE TOP HIGH SCHOOLS IN RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, Middletown High School is a comprehensive, four-year, public facility |
2 | comprised of grades nine through twelve with an enrollment of approximately 700 students from |
3 | the local community; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The school's mission is "to be an educational community committed to |
5 | providing the academic, civic, and social tools essential for the future success of our students"; |
6 | and |
7 | WHEREAS, Since first opening its doors, Middletown High School has compiled a |
8 | tradition of academic rigor, coupled with an unwavering commitment to teaching and guiding its |
9 | pupils to become successful in a competitive and ever-changing world; and |
10 | WHEREAS, The 2014 U.S. News and World Report has validated the school's efforts by |
11 | officially ranking it as the fifth best high school out of the fifty-two currently operating in Rhode |
12 | Island; and |
13 | WHEREAS, In addition, nationwide Middletown High School earned a prestigious |
14 | ranking of 1,504 out of the 31,242 high schools across the United States; and |
15 | WHEREAS, In order to qualify for a state ranking, Middletown High School needed to |
16 | be awarded a national gold or silver medal which is based on teacher-to-student ratios, college |
17 | readiness and proficiency in math and reading. Based on the NECAP test administered in |
18 | October of 2013, Middletown scored first in writing, fourth in math proficiency and two-thirds of |
19 | its students met grade expectations with distinction in reading; and |

1 | WHEREAS, The accomplishments and strides demonstrated by this achievement |
2 | illustrates the positive impact that a successful collaboration between administrators, teachers, |
3 | and parents has had on the educational experience of the young people attending Middletown |
4 | High School; now, therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
6 | hereby applauds and congratulates the students, administration, parents, teachers, and staff of |
7 | Middletown High School for their uncompromising dedication to excellence in education and on |
8 | earning the rank of "Top 5" high schools in Rhode Island; and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Rosemarie K. Kraeger, Superintendent of |
11 | the Middletown School Department. |
