S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING SINCERE SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF LT. FRANK E. MCKNIGHT,

NORTH KINGSTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT (RETIRED)

     WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this Senate has learned of the untimely passing

2

of Frank E. McKnight, beloved husband of twenty-four years to Linda J. McKnight, a well-

3

respected former Lieutenant with the North Kingstown Police Department, and a highly regarded

4

Federal Court security officer; and

5

     WHEREAS, Born in Providence, Frank McKnight was a son of the late Alexander and

6

Maria McKnight. He is survived by his sister, Maria "Josephine" Rossi, his brother, Louis

7

McKnight, his mother-in-law, Claire M. Guillemette, and many nieces and nephews. He was also

8

the brother of the late Michael McKnight; and

9

     WHEREAS, Mr. McKnight was a graduate of Cranston West High School and attained

10

his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University. He served our state

11

and country with honor in the Rhode Island Army National Guard during the Vietnam War; and

12

      WHEREAS, In 1972, after working with the Warwick Police Department, Frank

13

McKnight joined the North Kingstown Police Department where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant

14

before retiring after serving for more than twenty-five years; and

15

     WHEREAS, Subsequent to his service in North Kingstown, Lt. McKnight was employed

16

as a special deputy United States Marshall and court security officer for the Federal Court House

17

in Providence, where his calm command of any situation had earned the respect of all who passed

18

through the Court's doors; and

19

     WHEREAS, In addition to his dedication to his family and work, Mr. McKnight was an

avid gardener and had planned to begin the Master Gardener's program at the University of

2

Rhode Island. He also owned his own plane and was a licensed pilot, and was a member of the

3

East Greenwich Firemen's Club; and

4

     WHEREAS, Frank E. McKnight was a good-natured and steadfast gentleman, and his

5

warm, considerate, and helpful personality enriched and will be remembered by all who knew

6

him; now, therefore be it

7

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

8

hereby extends sincere condolences on the passing of Frank E. McKnight; and be it further

9

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

10

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Linda J. McKnight and Family.
