STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, Ataxia is a rare, progressive disorder of the nervous system affecting |
2 | balance and coordination; and |
3 | WHEREAS, An estimated 150,000 individuals are affected by hereditary and sporadic |
4 | ataxia in the United States; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Ataxia is an often fatal degenerative neurological disorder that affects |
6 | balance, coordination and speech; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Ataxia can strike anyone at any time, without regard to age, gender, race or |
8 | creed; and |
9 | WHEREAS, There is no known cure for Ataxia. The only defense is research and |
10 | prevention through education; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
12 | hereby proclaims September 25, 2014, to be "Ataxia Awareness Day" in the State of Rhode |
13 | Island; and be it further |
14 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
15 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Anabela Azevedo, Rhode Island Ataxia |
