RELATING TO EDUCATION -- MAYORAL ACADEMIES AND CHARTER SCHOOLS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Title 16 of the General Laws entitled "EDUCATION" is hereby amended |
2 | by adding thereto the following chapter: |
3 | CHAPTER 77.5 |
4 | MAYORAL ACADEMIES AND CHARTER SCHOOLS IN WEST WARWICK |
5 | 16-77.5-1. Limited exemption from certain requirements for mayoral academies and |
6 | charter schools. – Notwithstanding any other provision of law, for the period of time beginning |
7 | on July 1, 2014, up to and including June 30, 2019, the town of West Warwick is exempted from |
8 | complying with any of the provisions set forth in chapters 77, 77.1, 77.2, 77.3 and 77.4 of title 16. |
9 | The town of West Warwick shall be exempt as a sending school district to any mayoral |
10 | academy/charter school for the period of the five (5) year funding improvement plan that has |
11 | been submitted and approved by the Rhode Island state division of revenue. |
12 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

1 | This act would exempt the town of West Warwick from complying with the statutory |
2 | requirements of chapters 77, 77.1, 77.2, 77.3 and 77.4 of title 16 regarding a mayoral academy, |
3 | charter schools, and municipal academies for a five (5) year period. In addition, the town of West |
4 | Warwick shall be exempted as a sending school district for the same five (5) year period. |
5 | This act would take effect upon passage. |
