CONGRATULATING THE CRANSTON HIGH SCHOOL WEST BOYS' HOCKEY TEAM | |
ON WINNING THE 2013-2014 RHODE ISLAND BOYS' HOCKEY DIVISION I | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Cranston High School West Boys' Hockey Team rode a late season hot |
2 | streak to win their first State Championship since 2009, when they won the Division I-A Title; |
3 | and |
4 | WHEREAS, After winning their last two regular season games and sweeping Coventry in |
5 | the playoff semi-finals, Cranston West faced Burrillville for the Championship in a hard-fought |
6 | three game series; and |
7 | WHEREAS, After winning game one convincingly by the score of 6-3, and dropping |
8 | game two 5-4, the Cranston West Falcons, with everything on the line, arguably played their best |
9 | game of the season, and defeated Burrillville 3-0 in the deciding game of the series at Brown |
10 | University's Meehan Auditorium to win the Division I State Title; and |
11 | WHEREAS, In the deciding game, Junior goaltender Anthony Lancellotti, along with |
12 | defensemen Rudy Branca, Ryan Beliveau, Matt Botelho and Adam Turenne, shut the door on |
13 | Burrillville's attackers, not allowing a single goal. Sophomore forward Austin Alzate scored two |
14 | clutch goals and Ryan Beliveau scored an empty net goal to clinch the game and the State |
15 | Championship for Cranston West; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Winning a State Title in any team sport requires that everyone on the team |
17 | be completely committed towards the proposition that personal goals come secondary to what is |
18 | best for the team, and the Cranston West Boys' Hockey Team were filled with young men such as |

12 | Michael Boyajian and Assistant Coach Matthew Brannon were both quite skilled in their |
13 | coaching abilities and proved to be superb leaders and teachers of these young men; now, |
14 | therefore be it |
15 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
16 | hereby congratulates the Cranston West Boys' Hockey Team on winning the 2013-2014 Rhode |
17 | Island Boys' Hockey Division I Championship; and be it further |
18 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
19 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Cranston West Boys' Hockey Head Coach |
20 | Michael Boyajian. |
