S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING GREGORY MICHAEL COLEMAN OF TROOP 152

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RHODE ISLAND, UPON ACHIEVING SCOUTING'S MOST

DISTINGUISHED HONOR, THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT

     WHEREAS, Scouting is a movement that challenges, inspires, and guides young men

2

toward high achievements and values as expressed in the Scout oath, law, motto, and slogan; and

3

     WHEREAS, Earning an Eagle Scout Badge, the pinnacle of achievement with the Boys

4

Scouts of America, is an exceptional distinction achieved by very few of the young men who

5

enter scouting; and

6

     WHEREAS, Gregory Michael Coleman of Troop 152 North Kingstown, is a remarkable

7

young man worthy of this prestigious achievement, and his accomplishments are truly deserving

8

of our recognition; and

9

     WHEREAS, Gregory began his distinguished scouting career as a Cub Scout with Pack 1

10

Saunderstown, where he earned the Arrow of Light. As a Boy Scout he has earned 45 merit

11

badges and was voted into the Order of the Arrow in 2011; and

12

     WHEREAS, Mr. Coleman has had many exemplary accomplishments in his

13

distinguished scouting career. He served as Den Chief in Pack 1 Saunderstown for two years. He

14

represented the Narragansett Council at the 100th Anniversary Jamboree at Fort A. P. Hill in

15

Virginia, and attended Narragansett Council’s acclaimed Merit Badge College four times. He has

16

spent over seven weeks at Camp Yawgoog in his scouting career and has climbed all seven 5,000

17

foot peaks in the White Mountains of New Hampshire; and

18

     WHEREAS, Gregory has completed over 100 hours of community service as a Boy

19

Scout and in the culmination of his Scouting career, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout on

November 12, 2013; and

2

     WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth, and to

3

celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Gregory Michael Coleman exemplifies

4

everything an Eagle Scout should be, and all that we hope our children will grow to be; now,

5

therefore be it

6

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

7

hereby honors and congratulates Gregory Michael Coleman for all he has done to attain the rank

8

of Eagle Scout. We furthermore extend our deepest appreciation for his service to the community

9

and for setting a high standard of commitment and dedication by which the youth of this great

10

state may follow; and be it further

11

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

12

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Gregory Michael Coleman.
